I'm reading Diane Stein's book on pendulums (Pendulums and the Light), and she talks about how inexpensively one can make their own pendulums; a couple bucks each. However, although she gives an excellent resource for most of the materials, the key material -- the pendulum pendant itself -- does not seem to be available at FireMountainGems.com.
Does anyone here make their own pendulums, not counting tying a ring or nut on a piece of string?
I think it would be neat to make my own, but I've done a fairly thorough search of the Net and haven't been able to find anything under "pendulum pendants," jewelry making supplies, etc. All the search engines come up with are pendulums already made. :(

Re: Hi & a Q: Anyone make their own pendulums?
Fri, February 23, 2007 - 3:43 PMThere's no special pendant that you must use. I've had pendulums using small raw quartz crystals with a glued-on bail, beads and other objects. My current favorite uses a pointed-end swarovski crystal.
Some ebay sellers have stone on a chain pendulums not too expensively that you could add to.

Re: Hi & a Q: Anyone make their own pendulums?
Tue, February 27, 2007 - 2:42 PMHi, Patricia!
No, I know you can make pendulums out of just about anything with a little weight to it -- even a paperclip.
But I'd really like to make some metal plumb-bob style (but regular plumb bobs are (1) kinda ugly and (2) way too big and heavy, most weighing around 8-16 ozs).
I did come across one site that sells the faceted stone pendulum ends by themselves; after all, one would have to have special equipment to polish and shape the stones like that, which I'm not inclined to do. But I really want to make a bunch of varied metal ones, and maybe a few crystal ones.
So if you or anyone else comes across a good resource, please let me know! :) -

Re: Hi & a Q: Anyone make their own pendulums?
Tue, February 27, 2007 - 5:45 PMthere are some crystals that in the rough, have perfect point ends that work really good for pendulums..i make pendulums with beautiful natural points of kunzite. i use hemp twine and tie it to the crystal. i think having a natural point focuses the energy in a powerful way, and i have found that these are really good for use in healing work.
love and blessings!

Making Metal Pendulums
Wed, February 28, 2007 - 8:30 AMConsider this although it is possibly more than you were bargaining for: Take an Open University class in jewelry making. Once you learn how do lost wax casting and have the basic equipment, you can make just about anything in silver or gold. Other metals depending on melting point. I did this while at University ... um ... years ago but only made jewelry never thought about it for pendulums (at that time I was using one of the late Bill Finch's penulums which really were just not practical since the fine pointing wire practically got bent out of shape with a glance).
Another resource would be to email Joe Smith who turns out spiral lathed brass pendulums. He's a real stand-up guy based on my buying some pendulums and several bobbers from him (he makes the best bobbers!) I wouldn't be surprised if you expressed a real interest in how he does if he took the time to tell you how do do it yourself. Here's a resource that may let you contact him: dowsers.info/toronto/joesmith.htm
Good luck and happy dowsing,

Re: Making Metal Pendulums
Wed, March 7, 2007 - 1:35 PMHey, Zed! I've heard of Joe Smith, and though I've never tried one of his bobbers I'm hoping to some time. Thus far I've worked with pendulums and now L-rods....gradually working my way towards other dowsing tools. I wanna order one of his "dancing" pendulums soon, as well.
Right now I've got my eye on ordering a Mer-Isis from Alicja....... :)

Bobbers, Pendulums, L-Rods and PICHY HITS A GUSHER!
Fri, March 9, 2007 - 8:55 AMHi,
The dancing pendulum is nice. I really like his bobbers. I got prices from him for buying wholesale (and retail) you have to buy 12 to get the wholesale price. Maybe we could all combine and get an order in and save some money. I could use a couple bobbers.
I prefer pendums over anything (probably because that's all I've ever used except bobbers). BUT a bobber works basically just like a pendulum and sometimes when I am clearing a large group of people I'll use the bobber to make it more visible although the pendulum can do the exact same thing and it is much more precise (IMO if you are needing very finely dowsed numbers (especially using Walt Wood's chart which you can get in Letter to Robin in 8 1/2 x 11 size or in pocket card size from Toronto Dowsers (very handy to laminate and carry around with you!) I've never found a chart I like better than Walt's though often, that degree of precision and THAT many scales and options are not necessary.
Pichy dowsed a well here in the desert a month ago and they finally drilled it yesterday and by god they hit an incredible gusher: 15 gallons/minute when the normal here is one to two gallons/minute. He used the pendulum and a set of my L-Rods. I'm so proud of him - he's great at finding lost stuff around the house with a bobber too.
We're taking a well dowsing class this weekend; it's really valuable IMO to expose ones self to many different dowsers to have a real breadth of influences and skills at one's disposal.
Best,
Zed Zebra
